He is assistant professor of political science in the USC College of Letters, Arts and Sciences and faculty associate at the USC-Caltech Center for the Study of Law and Politics.

Herbert E. Alexander is a political expert specializing in campaign finance, political action committees, party strengthening strategies, and voting and election reform. Alexander authored Comparative Political Finance Among the Democracies and Financing Politics: Money, Elections & Political Reform, 4th ed. A professor emeritus of political science in the USC College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, he is also founding director of the USC Citizens' Research Foundation.
